Yao Wu

Yao Wu joined ESAI in 2017 as a China analyst. She launched China Trade Watch, forecasting China's monthly oil imports based on a holistic analysis of oil demand, refinery throughput, and inventory. She also created a methodology to estimate and forecast China's industrial fuel demand to capture the country's trend in refinery-petrochemical integration. Yao later became responsible for analyzing the Asia Pacific region's oil demand, vehicle fleets, and renewable fuels.
In addition to preparing ESAI's monthly China Watch, China Trade Watch, and Asia Watch, Yao leads the company's research on global demand for petrochemical feedstock and contributes to the Global NGLs Outlook. She also contributes regularly to Green Energy Trends and geopolitical analysis.
Before ESAI, Yao has studied and worked in China, Mexico, and Spain. She received her master's from Tufts University's Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy with a focus on energy and business and her BA from Peking University in China. She speaks Mandarin Chinese, English, and Spanish.
